OSU ESRA Rocket Team
As the team lead of the 2021-2022 OSU Experimental Sounding Rocket Association I guided us to our 2nd place in category finish at the 2022 Spaceport America Cup! The team was composed of 16 senior mechanical engineering students, all with a passion for aerospace. Over the course of the year we designed a build a 135 lb rocket with a deployable payload to launch to 30,000 feet AGL (above ground level) on a student design and built solid motor.
Leadership and Administration
Coordinated the grant process for the OSGC UTEP award of $8,900 towards the project
Set deadlines, held members accountable, and resolved conflicts
Led weekly meetings
Main point of contact to OSU, SA Cup, and mentors
Engineering Contributions
Designed and built the avionics bay
Novel fiberglass with shock cord passthrough design
Flight computers, cameras, etc.
CNC'd aluminum motor casing parts and jigs for carbon fiber layups
Machined parts for the structures subteam, including bulkheads and fins
Mixed, characterized, and troubleshooted solid motor fuel
